Dave has been a student of Jiu Jitsu since the mid 1980s. He was fortunate enough to begin his journey learning in the “Gracie Garage” in Torrance, CA from Grand Master Rorion Gracie, Master Royce Gracie, Master Royler Gracie, Master Carlos Machado, Master Rigan Machado, and of course, Master Rickson Gracie. Master Rickson opened his original Pico Blvd studio in West L.A., where Dave trained. Dave is one of the very few people to have trained under Master Rickson and have all his belts awarded to him by Rickson, blue belt through black belt. Dave Kama is also #6 of the “Dirty Dozen of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu”, a moniker given to the first 12 non-Brazilians to earn the coveted black belt. Dave Kama grew to become Master Rickson’s best student (American or Brazilian), dispatching many challengers in place of Rickson himself. In 1993, Master Rickson asked Dave to take over as head instructor at the Rickson Gracie Laguna Niguel location. Dave has been running this location ever since. In 2012, upon Master Rickson’s retirement, Dave officially changed the name of the school from Rickson Gracie Laguna Niguel to Kama Jiu-Jitsu, part of the Rickson Gracie Team of Academies.

I love tennis. Starting from the first time striking a tennis ball until now, it feels great to hit the tennis ball. This lead to a passion for all things tennis, from teaching to tennis equipment, I enjoy it all. I played number one at my high school and all 4 years at Christ College of Irvine. For the past 25 years I have taught tennis. I have had a USPTA P-1 for over 20 years, named “pro of my region” in 2011. I am have had a keen interest in tennis equipment and have been involved in running tennis pro shops for over 20 years. This experience helped me to attain a job with Babolat as a territory rep in Southern California. My availability is Friday nights and weekends and I am interested in someone who wants to improve and have a greater enjoyment of tennis.
